UFC axes star for bizarre bubble breach

Ahead of the much anticipated UFC 257, the promotion has cut undefeated lightweight Ottman Azaitar, just one day before he was scheduled to face Matt Frevola on the Conor McGregor v Dustin Poirer card.

Azaitar, an exciting German-Moroccan lightweight with 10 career knockouts, was axed from the promotion altogether for committing a "violation of the health and safety protocols".

UFC president Dana White told BT Sport that his security team found an unauthorized individual entering the fighter hotel with a wristband provided by Azaitar to deliver a bag to the fighter's room.

After Azaitar's late scratching, Frevola will now face Arman Tsarukyan in a 157-pound catchweight bout.

"It's just bad," White said.

"He and his team cut off their wrist bands, gave them to somebody outside the bubble, I don't know how they even did it," UFC president Dana White said.

"That guy taped them, showed up here with a bag, went into a room, shimmied across four balconies, went in his room dropped the bag off, changed his clothes, and then left.

"Now when security tried to stop him, he wouldn't stop, either way, and yeah, it's just … he's gone. He's no longer a UFC fighter and he's not fighting tonight."
