‘It’s going good’ Luka Modric confirms contract extension likely after positive Real Madrid negotiations

Modric renewal close

The speculation around the future of Luka Modric is seemingly coming to a close with the Croatian international set to sign a new 1-year extension which will keep him at Real Madrid until the summer of 2022.

The former Spurs midfielder was asked recently about the possibility of a renewal and spoke positively about conversations he and his representatives have had with his club where he has spent the best part of 8 years.

“My renewal? It’s going good, I’m talking with the club and I’m happy with it but I can’t tell you anything more now”

Real Madrid are dealing with the contract situations of both Modric and Sergio Ramos. Zinedine Zidane spoke about the wants to have both of these players signed on for next season as they are key figures for the side as they look to secure a second and possibly (next season) third successive La Liga title.

“Yes, we all want,” Zidane said. “We want the situation to be sorted as quickly as possible. It’s in everyone’s interests, it would be good for everyone, so hopefully it can be sorted out quickly.”

No news on incomings

Whilst the want to renew player’s contracts is high on the agenda at Los Blancos, the possibility of incoming signings is not anywhere near as elevated. Speaking at the beginning of the window, Zidane reiterated the faith he has in an already sizeable squad.

“We’ve got all our players here. I’m just thinking about the game tomorrow with the players that I have here. Then maybe you’re going to ask me about the players that are playing a lot or not playing a lot. We have 22 players, 25 with the goalkeepers, a very big squad,” he said.

“We have enough to think about with the games that we have not to be thinking about players that aren’t even ours. Please, we’re thinking just about the game tomorrow.”

Real Madrid have closed the gap to their city rivals to just four points although Atletico do have to matches to play over Zidane’s team.

Atleti coach Diego Simeone was voted the coach of the past decade having seen his Madrid team win a famous La Liga title beating both Spanish heavyweights Real and Barcelona to a rare summit, reaching two Champions League finals, winning the Copa del Rey, two Spanish Super Cups and two Europa Leagues.

He beat the likes of Jurgen Klopp and three times Champions League winning coach Zidane himself.
