‘You can’t say no’ – Marc Cucurella casts doubt on Brighton future with latest comments

Brighton defender Marc Cucurella has revealed that ‘there are some teams you can’t say no to’ when asked about potential transfer links away from the Amex Stadium this summer, prompting further speculation that he could be plying his trade somewhere else next season.

The former La Masia graduate only joined the south coast outfit in the summer of 2021, after a stunning season with Getafe, but has taken his game to new heights this season under Graham Potter.

A contender for Premier League signing of the season, the Spaniard has excelled both at wing-back and at left centre-back in a back three, catching the eye of the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City in the process.

And, amid rumours of a potential £30m bid from the Cityzens, Cucurella has done nothing to play down speculation, claiming that there are certain clubs that he would seemingly push for a move to ‘if the opportunity arises’.

‘If the opportunity arises, you have to take advantage of it’, he told Gerard Romero. ‘There are teams that you can’t say no to.’

Bissouma also set to leave?

In addition to Cucurella’s potential departure, Yves Bissouma is also expected to leave Brighton, with just 12 months left on his contract. Bissouma has long been a key part of the Seagulls’ midfield, but his contract situation means that the club are set to be forced to part with him on the cheap, with bids of around £25m expected to be considered.

Previously linked with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal, it seems as though it is Aston Villa in the driving seat for his services at present, after seeing a January move rejected for the Mali midfielder.

It will need to be another summer of smart recruitment on the south coast.
